Fryberger Arena, Duluth

There is nothing that I can do to prepare you for this level of freezing. This is the coldest rink I have EVER been in. I understand why they have a small seating area-no one wants to sit and watch a game in this arena. They do have heaters but they do not keep you warm enough. There were times that I thought it was warmer outside than inside. It's so cold in there that you can see the frozen condensation build up around some of their doors that aren't used frequently. For those who just cannot stand that level of cold, they do have an enclosed heated viewing area upstairs. They also have a concession stand upstairs, which I'm sure they sell lots of coffee and hot chocolate.
If you must attend a game at this rink make sure you are prepared with a heated vest, socks, seats and lots of warm blankets.
As a bonus, the zamboni sounds like it's ready to fall apart at any moment.

My husband is a coach for our children and he even wanted to give his input...
This rink has its fair share of quirks. The ice is built up so high that it almost completely covers the dasher boards and the ice dips in the corner where the entrance door is. The door doesn't shut properly, so if a puck rings around the boards, there is a good chance it will pop out in front of the net. The benches sit so low that shorter players will need a running start to jump the boards and they may not even be able to see over them.
While the rink is a deep freeze, the locker rooms are another story. They keep them roughly the temperature of a sauna. I had to bounce back and forth from the locker room to the arena to keep from suffering from either heat exhaustion or frost bite.
Locally known as “freeze-berger!” The rink in Two Harbors is also “see your breath cold” 🥶
